About the Review
Purpose
The Oxford Undergraduate Law & Policy Review was founded in Trinity Term 2025 to give law students a place to develop and publish original legal and policy analysis beyond the limits of the undergraduate syllabus.
Its founding editors found that opportunities for undergraduate legal writing tended to fall at two extremes: informal blogs offering short commentary, and highly selective journals whose standards can appear daunting to first-time authors. The Review sits between the two. It publishes work that is rigorous and ambitious, and it is open to students writing for publication for the first time.
History
The Review succeeded Verdict, the Oxford Law Society’s earlier magazine of student writing, whose issues from 2016 to 2019 are kept in the archive. Its first issue, covering Michaelmas 2025 and Hilary 2026, carried a foreword by the Rt Hon Lord Justice Dingemans, Senior President of Tribunals.
